Subaru is regarded as one of the nation's newer car companies, but did you know they began manufacturing cars in 1968? In a decade of change, the Subaru 360 was born, imported from Japan. It was economic and quite frankly, unattractive. It began the company that we know today. Americans were beginning to look for solid, reliable cars that were cheap and easy to drive. Because of that, the 360 made a splash in American automotives, and they were popular with American families. After the 360 was released, Subaru released new models throughout the 1960's and into the 70's that revolutionized the way the American family drove. Soon, Subaru was gaining a following, with increased respect in the automotive industry. Subaru first won "Car of the Year" in 1976 and were on their way to being a legitimized and booming company.

Subaru continued their success through the 70's, and with the lowering of gas prices came a renewed surge into the automotive industry. People were buying cars again, and they were buying Subaru's. The Subaru BRAT revolutionized the all weather, all wheel drive, anywhere automobile and was the recipient of many automotive industry awards and honors for its design and innovation. With the design of newer Subaru's came drivers who knew they could expect quality Subaru Legacy car parts, performance and economy from the car company, and many became loyal subscribers to the Subaru way of life.
In the 80's, Subaru unveiled the XT Coupe to keep up with American's demands for faster, smaller cars. It quickly became America's most aerodynamic design, thanks to its innovation, technology and Subaru Legacy car parts. It was a new take on its previous reputation for only making cheap, ugly cars.

Subaru redefined its image in the 1990's by rolling the Justy, which not only could drive just about anywhere, it could do it quickly. It could reach speeds of 117.4 mph, unheard of for an all-terrain vehicle. Subaru had found a market niche. They had found people who didn't want to have to choose between all wheel drive vehicles and sports cars. They learned to combine the two with a mixture of all wheel drive and small frames, with sleek styling and amazing horsepower.

Today, Subaru keeps the same reputation as it carved out for itself in the early 90's. Consumers come to Subaru for its quality and price, but also for its utility and speed. This rate concoction of qualities is what keeps Subaru alive and well today.
